WHAT IS BUCKET FILLING?
How will it be used in the classroom?
All students have a bucket (represents mental and emotional self) that their peers, teachers, aides, administration, etc. will drop messages &/or fuzzy balls into. These "drops" tell each student what positive character qualities they demonstrated during the school day, on the bus, or out in the community. Once their individual bucket is full, they will be rewarded with a choice of prize. Once the "class bucket" is full, then the entire class will be awarded with a choice of a reward (extra recess time, choice of game or activity, afternoon snack, etc.)

What is meant by "bucket dipping" and "using your lid"?
"BUCKET DIPPING" is the opposite of filling a bucket -- being disrespectful, intentionally/unintentionally doing unkind/hurtful things to others/self, refusing to help out, bullying, etc. These actions should ALWAYS be addressed and concluded with a sincere apology.
"USING YOUR LID" means to put a mental shield against anything that would "dip" (taking away from your mental/emotional self) into your bucket. This a training of yourself to take pain, anger, or hurt from being embarrassing or painful state and build necessary skills to deal with life's challenges.

How to help continue this concept at home?
Anytime your child demonstrates positive character qualities (respect, trust, helping another without being asked, or just making someone else feel better with smile, card, discussion, etc.), they should be praised -- verbally, non-verbally, &/or with a small prize (candy, sticker, etc.).
